Kitchen remodels are a big deal. Any of you who have gone through it are aware of how difficult it is, and how expensive it can be. You want to be sure you’re doing something that will look nice for years to come.
So as with anything, there are trends that are short term, and some long term. It’s up to you to decide which one you feel the closest connection with. For now, here are the popular kitchen trends that I think are worthy of your time.
This is becoming a common color combination for kitchens, and not exactly in the way you think. It used to be black and white checkered floors, and black appliances were once very popular. Now, there is something about black cabinets, and white walls.
Seeing these colors combined with dark stained woods provides for a contemporary industrial look. It’s clean and refined, but it’s still strong and eye catching.
With the colors being so bold, it’s safer to do less with patterns in backsplash and flooring. Make the colors the primary wow factor.
Farmhouse sinks have been a wonderful new addition to the kitchen. They have a beautiful shape and the size makes for a rather nice experience.
Now being able to see these sinks in fun new colors makes for a real pop in any kitchen. It’s becoming more and more common to see a kitchen with a bright green or a royal blue sink. It makes for a pretty nice impression overall. As you can see here, this white kitchen is beautiful with this teal blue sink. It’s a small amount, but it is certainly enough to make a statement.
This has been growing in popularity. Whether it’s cabinets, fixtures, or accessories, introducing brass into your kitchen is quite the trend.
One of the easiest ways to bring in pops of brass is to install brass light fixtures above an island, or bring in a brass toaster. Some people out there are going as far as getting all brass cabinets. Although it is very expensive, it can look pretty amazing. One of the best things about adding brass to the kitchen is it can work in nearly any color scheme. It looks great with white, but it can work with a dark navy, or a pastel peach. Brass will instantly step your kitchen up a notch no matter how you use it.
In general this trend is ideal for any part of the house. Still, it’s most important when opening up a kitchen.
Kitchens were once closed off and private. Not any more. Now, you want to be able to see the kitchen from the dining room or family room. Opening up a kitchen makes it feel vastly larger and this is all anyone ever wants for their kitchen.
A few years ago it was a big trend to remove all cabinets and simply use open shelves in a kitchen. Now, it has moved on to kitchens with cabinets and shelves that work in a more functional way.
They open and close easier, they provide for more storage, and they are just really cool to look at. Some are bright and bizarre, or some are just really minimal and modern. Cabinets are being installed and used in a whole new way.
