Bathroom sinks are clearly an important feature in a bathroom. In fact without it, I’d say it’s not really a bathroom at all. More often than not homeowners choose to leave the sink, or vanity, as is and focus on more important areas of a home. It’s understandable. However I think if you put some more thought into what you have, versus what you could have, you may want to reconsider its importance. Choosing a bathroom vanity or sink is crucial to making your space work.
There are four elements that will aid you in determining what type of sink or fixture you need. Style, size, storage, and price, are all important features that must be considered when choosing your bathroom sink or vanity.
Size. Having a vanity with enough counter space to fill up with your junk is aways appealing, just not practical. Plus, you’re just filling it up with junk. You may need to be okay with having a smaller vanity.
Style. This is referring to what style of decor you prefer. Do you enjoy something elegant, modern, or maybe something authentic to your home? You need to determine what works for you and your home, in order to make this decision.
Storage. Do you need to have storage for many items. Meaning can you not store certain things elsewhere, or it’s just simply easier for you to store amenities in your vanity? The answer to this will dictate what you need to install.
Price. As always price is usually a factor when shopping for something like this. Think about what your budget is, and be sure it’s realistic. How much you’re able to spend can often be an important factor.
Size. These are the smallest sinks to choose from. These are great for very small bathrooms, guest bathrooms, and powder rooms.
Style. You can get anything from modern to traditional. For the most part they all look very similar. There are some that are much more unique, and don’t come in a ceramic material. You just have to look. Or it could come down to you choosing a round sink versus a square. It depends entirely on what you prefer.
Storage. There is no chance for storage. You can’t get it built-in, and you cannot set it below your sink. Your storage options must be elsewhere.
Price. These are ordinarily the cheapest. You can get it from a showroom, online, home depot, or even second-hand.
Size. These are approximately a similar size to the pedestal sinks. They can have a slightly larger overall width, but it’s not a big difference. These are still great for saving space. These too are great for small bathrooms, guest bathrooms, and powder rooms.
Style. You can get just the sink, or legs to attach in the front. I recommend legs because you do run the risk of the sink pulling out of the wall if the weight is too great. So get yourself some great legs to make this boring old sink a little more interesting.
Storage. There is no built-in storage here but you can always add something below. Luckily there is nothing other than a small pipe running across, so you can add a basket or container that works for you.
Price. These are comparable to the pedestal sinks as well. They can be less, they can be slightly more, it just depends on your needs. Also don’t forget about the cost of installation.
Size. These range drastically. This all depends on what your space requirements are. You can get something as small as 24″ to 60″ or more. A bathroom vanity can go in any bathroom as long as you have the space for it.
Style. Again this has the widest range of styles. You can change-up the countertop, the unit material, color, style, anything. Decide what you want and you can get it custom-made or buy something that comes as is.
Storage. This gives you the most storage by far. The bigger the unit the more storage you have. You can choose between drawers or cabinets. This is also the best way to conceal your storage so that it’s not right out in the open for all to see.
Price. These are the most expensive. Again this ranges on size and material. Getting a unit that is prebuilt and just needs to be installed is clearly the cheapest. Getting something custom, although can look amazing, will no doubt me much more expensive.
