For some unknown reasons many homes, old and new, have awkward spaces that leave us baffled. Or, maybe you just have a corner of a room that needs… something. Ya never know what you’re supposed to use the space for. So more often than not they’re left empty and simply unused which is a real waste. Instead, try to make this awkward little area look amazing, and function at its best. One of these 5 ideas should help you with that awkward space in your home.
Let’s be honest, more and more people are putting down books and picking up their cell phones or tablets. Still, it’s nice to imagine a space where you can simply sit and read (whatever you wish of course), in your own comfortable little area.
What you need: Chair, Pillow, Ottoman, Side Table and Lamp
Fill It with Art
Sometimes you have a space small enough that you need to fill it with something decorative. This is when a large-scale piece of art, or multiple pieces like shown above, can be just the right statement. If you have enough room, add a small credenza with decorative accents and a beautiful piece of art above.
What you need: Art (one large or multiple small pieces) big enough to fill a wall, Credenza or book shelf, decorative accents
Kids Play Area
As a parent I am fully aware of how easy it is for our children’s things to take over any given room in our house. If you had a place to keep their things and allow for them to play it would make everyone so much happier.
What you need: Storage (for toys), Rug, lounge chairs (if room permits) and color.
Small Office Space
Unless you work from home and need a rather large area, those awkward spaces in your home make for a great little office.
What you need: Small desk or table, chair, wall art, and a table lamp
I don’t care who you are, we can all use more storage. You may not love your closet space, but that’s okay because you can create your own place for storage. Insert shelves and cubbies in that little extra nook. Just make sure it looks nice and isn’t all shoved in.
What you need: Shelves, Cabinet, Filing systems, and whatever else you can fit in your space to store you “extra’s”.
