I am in the process of downsizing, as my old office is slowly becoming a nursery. I am adding my office space to our family room, and I need to be a little wiser with how I organize some things. I wanted to get storage bins, but I hate the ones available for purchase. So instead, I made my own.
Now let me just say, the whole point of creating your own is because it is WAY cheaper than purchasing brand new boxes, and you can make them look massively better. So if these two aspects appeal to you, you will love this project.
Cardboard Boxes (Most craft stores carry these and they’re crazy inexpensive)
I found this pack of 3 fabric tape and used it to create my whole scheme. I suggest you do the same. I love using fabric tape for this because it makes the box feels softer, and it really does cause them to look like they are entirely covered in fabric. I planned out how I wanted each color and pattern to be used. I chose to keep some of the actual cardboard exposed as I thought it looked nice. You want each box to work together and separately, so planning it out is key.
With the blue acrylic paint I was able to cover lids and boxes. I used the tape to accent the paint. I taped off only the area’s of the boxes I knew would be shown from my shelves. Otherwise you will have to buy multiple rolls and there is really no point. I also kept the inside completely untouched. I didn’t think there was any need.
Use Your labels if you wish. I personally love labels because it helps maintain order. I don’t know about you but my office desperately needs some order.
There, it’s all done. That’s it! With 20 minutes and $15, I have 4 custom storage boxes that I will be happy to show off in my new office space.
