Living in a dorm can be an exciting time. This is probably your first place that is all yours and the decor is not dictated by your parents. You want to be sure it looks nice, so here are some dorm room ideas you can actually afford, and will have no problem managing on your own.
Do you like what you see in the image here? Check below for all of the information on how you can get your hands on these things.
Your bedding should matter. Don’t just use some funky old blanket you had from home. Get a brand new inexpensive duvet cover that has a fun pattern. Try not to get anything too light in color. Chances are you will be eating, drinking, and even working on your bed, so try to get something that hides stains.
Don’t just use the pillow covers that comes with your new bed spread. Get something with really fun colors. More than anything, these new accent pillows will make your room look dramatically different. You will love how much of a change these little guys can create.
Seeing as you aren’t able to make any big changes to your dorm room without getting into major trouble, accessories are one of your best bets. Think about buying yourself little treasure you can keep on your desk, bed side table, or shelving. Your room should come with one if not all of these, so add something to it that screams YOU. I think you can accomplish this with something like a terrarium, a vase, or colorful candles.
One of the best ways to feel like you’re growing up, is choosing art to place on your walls. For the same price as a poster, you can get something fun and creative that will make your friends consider tearing down their own posters for something pretty.
In college it is fun to show off all of the great pictures you have with family and friends. You could just tape them straight to the wall, or, you could buy one frame that holds multiple pictures and you can change them out as you wish. This looks so much nicer than a massive colage that begins to take over your small wall space.
You’re clearly not getting a rug to keep your floors clean. I mean the beauty of living in a dorm is you are not concerned with what stays behind after you are gone. It is true what they say, the rug can really tie the room together. Plus they can bring in a fun punch of color that your room needs. Get something your roommates will like as well. Which means go neutral if you can. Just don’t forget to make it something fun.
You should have a desk in your room that allows for you and your roommates to work on all of those future assignments. You will want to have a desk lamp to make it easier to stay up late and read, write, or type. Trust me, you will be staying up late doing this on many occasions. Get a lamp that you really like. The one in the image above is only $15. I think that’s pretty great if you ask me.
Depending on your storage needs, you might want cubbies, shelves, or boxes, for underneath your bed. However hooks are often forgotten about. The hooks you see above are really cute and really cheap. You will be surprised by how much you can store on these little guys.
The Pieces above all add up to below $200, and it proves that you can have a room that looks nice, but doesn’t have to cost ya too much.
