I have found that there is no better way to make something more unique, or to save more money, than to incorporate home decor with multiple uses. It is amazing how many items can be used for more than one purpose, if you really stop and think about it.
Wallpaper cans serve as a beautiful accent to a wall, that we know. However it can also be framed and act as art, or it can accent a piece of furniture nicely. Basically if you have a flat surface, I think it will probably look 10 times better with some gorgeous wallpaper added to it.
I am constantly amazed by some of the beautiful shower curtains I keep coming across. They are making bathrooms stand out more and more. Still, I think they can serve another purpose. How about finding one with a large image and using it as one large unframed art piece on a very large blank wall. Have a table that needs a tablecloth? Shower curtains can often be cheaper than an actual tablecloth.
Basically reverse the above. If you find a table-cloth that you really like, assuming the size is correct, use it for a shower curtain. Or, cut it down and turn it into matching place mats. If the material is much too soft, turn them into napkins instead.
My favorite place to find dish towels is Anthropologie. They have fun patterns and use such great colors. They would make such adorable pillows. If you buy a few you can sew each end together and make a truly unique table runner.
A shelf is great for holding your decorative accents, but they can do so much more. If you’re in a place with very little space, try using a shelf as a desk. For those of you with small bedrooms, adding small shelves on either side of a bed can be great space-saving way to have a night stand.
Ottomans can have many purposes. If you find the right one it can also act as an extra seat in a time of need. Some can even be a sneaky place to keep junk and no one is the wiser.
This blanket from Leif Shop is clearly not just a blanket. As you can see it can also serve as a beautiful rug or runner. It’s actually so pretty I think it would make a great tapestry for your living room or bedroom.
