Lets face it, small bathrooms are somewhat uneasy. You can’t put anything in it, you are in a tight space, it’s quite stressful sometimes. Instead of tearing down the walls and renovating half of the house, we will give you several ideas to help make it look bigger. Some tips are concerned with organizing, so you will actually save space.
First of all you are limited by space, which is clear. But, in order to gain some of it, you need to set up your items and furniture better. If you can afford it, you can remove bath tub and put in a shower. This will let you will gain that extra space. Also, showers are in general easier to maintain. It is of importance to exploit space vertically rather than horizontally. For example, instead of having lower cabinet for towels, take floating shelves and stack few of those one upon another. Then see how much space have you gained.
We have already mentioned the tub, but what about the rest of the facilities? Here the advice is quite simple. install a smaller toilet with an in-wall small cistern, you will save water as well. Though this might seem as trivial, in longer run, you will save some money for sure. Sinks can be easily implemented atop of the old cabinet, so that its purpose will be twofold. First, you will find new usage for the cast out piece of furniture. Second, you will gain additional storage space. You can use it for storing extra toilet paper, soap, and shampoo. In order to give your personal touch you can order custom-made shower curtains. Those should not be too expensive, but will fit in nicely.
To further improve the looks of your bathroom, you will have to create a bit of illusion. The choice of colors is important, so be careful when choosing. High contrasted and strong colors will add to the sense of tight space, so avoid those. Instead, choose gentle shades of those colors which go nice together. Pale blue and white for example are perfect. In addition, colors depend on the source of light, so if you have one of those old yellowish and gloomy lightbulbs, get rid of them. Pick those which resembles natural light the most, such as pure white. The best solution is to have a huge window, which you can cover with curtains, in order to save your privacy. That is yet another opportunity to give in your personal touch.
There is no better aspect to create an illusion of a large space than a huge mirror. The best place for this is of course above the sink. Just watch out that the source of light is not behind you, so that it will create shadows. To avoid this, you can always choose a mirror with built-in light, or to install two small lamps on both side of the mirror. Cabinet mirrors are also a good thing to consider, for its additional drawers and partitions can provide a place for those things you use on a daily basis.
Choose the style you favor, and go for it.
