I love IKEA. I despise IKEA. I am so conflicted at times it’s really difficult. I know when shopping here, it’s best to stick to some of the helpful Tips For shopping IKEA. Just to avoid some of the stresses that come along with the store. I do however love some of their pieces, and I love their prices. But it’s not worth even that price when then piece you bought ends up falling apart after a year. Not everything works this way. So here is the dilemma. Here’s what to consider to shop for IKEA furniture successfully.
What To Avoid
Never get anything made of particle board. Always read the description for all pieces, because although it may look like wood, it’s probably not. IKEA covers a lot of their pieces in a veneer or wood, but the heart of it is particle board, which will totally fall apart after a few short uses.
If possible, avoid shopping online. I love online shopping, and there are rules to follow, but not from IKEA. You’ve really got to be able to see, feel, and try out their pieces. Even though you can see all of their product info, it’s usually not enough.
Be weary of most upholstered items. Not all of them, but most of them are not great for long term use. The cushions don’t tend to last for very long and they aren’t always the most comfortable items. If you see something you like, just test it out. You’ll know whether or not it’s gonna work for you.
Stay away from items that will be getting A LOT of use. They do test most of their products and share this information with you. However, if you are looking for something to withstand a great deal of use, then IKEA may not be for you. Except for many of their pricier items, their products may not be the way to go.
What To Look For
Lighting is often great. Their lamps, pendants, and wall sconces, are great products. Some of their lighting needs to use their specific light bulbs which is a drag, but if you stock up you’re good.
Stick with those popular pieces. The POÄNG chair is one of the most popular items at IKEA. It’s popular because it’s’ cheap, very durable, and they do look great. I recommend the Ultimate 9 Ikea Classics if you’re truly interested.
