As I have stated time and time again, our bedrooms are always last on the list of rooms to tackle. One example, is how we will have no problem buying throw pillows for our living room or more communal spaces, but never for the bed. Throw pillows for the bed are an absolute must and I think it’s time you get your bed styled correctly.
Why Pillows Work Here
Just like it does for your sofa, it provides visual contrast and looks like a more put together space.
Having decorative throw pillows on your bed makes your bed look like a soft and comfortable place to lay down. Who does’t want to jump on a big bed of pillows? I know I do.
Choosing The Pillows
First get your blanket, quilt, or duvet figured out. Then get your sheets and pillow cases for the bed you will actually be sleeping with. These pillows can have a contrasting color or pattern as well. You needn’t use the cases that come with your sheets.
Find pillows that work with your existing pieces. If you have dark colors for your bedding, think about getting something softer to lighten it up. If you have bold colors for your bedding, stick with something bold with a contrasting pattern, or is just plain dark. Now it will pop off of the bed.
The pillows you see above, and below, are all from Anthropologie, and they work together. They would look nice with an all white bedding, or something with a lot of navy, or gray. You just have to find what works for you.
How Many Pillows
That age of question, how many pillows is too many? Well this all depends on you. When you go to bed at night, how much time do you want to spend taking pillows off the bed? Or when you wake up in the morning, are you going to want to spend forever putting pillows back on?
5 Throw Pillows
7 Throw Pillows
If you’re gonna do it, Id go with at least 3. 5 is a good amount, 7 is starting to push it. You can do more, but please, try to use restraint. As you can see it just depends on how much contrast you want to add. Start out small and go from there. You can always have less, and then add a throw to the end of the bed too. Of course as always, there are no rules and you can do whatever you think works best for you. Just make it fun, and make it something you will be pleased with each night. No pressure.
