Looking for a quick change? This is easy to do. Whatever you have up on your windows needs to come down. That’s right. Take down your blinds, shutters, or curtains. Replace them with something else. Stat.
Maybe you love the type of treatment you have, you just need a different look. I don’t blame you. Our tastes change over time, so you want to update your windows periodically. This is a good thing to do regardless.
Change Up the Style
Don’t allow your window treatment to match the one style that may be present in your room. No matter what you have going on already, it shouldn’t limit you. It’s always very eclectic to break up the look into different styles.
If you have shades, a great read is ‘Types of Roman Shades’, and it will guide you accordingly.
Change the Color
Have something up that is neutral in tone? Take them down and put up a brand new fun color. Want something that gives off that light and airy feeling? Try a lighter shade of fabric, like something stark white or off white.
Get something that will make your room look dramatically different. With this new shade you can go ahead and use some new color in other areas of the room too. Instant change.
The type of pattern you use is dictated by the style you want in the room. See ‘Types of Patterned Draperies’ for some help deciphering the style that works for you.
If you’ve already got a lot of smaller scale patterns in a room, than you should add something larger, or vice versa.
Rethink the Size
Maybe your curtains go floor to ceiling. If so, think about having them shortened, so that they reach to the top of the window. Have the width extend beyond the window itself. Changes like these can make your windows feel much larger or smaller, depending on what you’re going for.
If your using shades, keep them inside the window frame for a cleaner more refined look. How you install your shades is indicative of the style you want to maintain with the rest of the decor.
Put Up Something New
If you have curtains, try shades. If you have blinds, try curtains. Having a new shape and texture covering your windows can mean a world of difference.
For a big change, try having nothing. If you are able to keep your windows free of any extra ornamentation, it will help create a larger looking space. Think this is crazy? Read ‘Is it okay to have no window treatments?’. You may feel differently about it.
